Deadline Extended: Geometric – A Juxtaposition of the Circle and the Square

Many endeavors in beadmaking focus on creating a shape that is circular or square in one dimension or another. Both the circle and the square are utilized in so many shapes and techniques ranging from spherical ball beads, donuts, and discs to cubes, focal pendants, and rectangular bricks.

For this juried, individual bead exhibit, artists are invited to submit a bead featuring a circular or square shape either in construction or surface decoration. Are you drawn to rounded edges, or do you surround yourself with patterns of crisp, straight lines? Maybe you envision a cube with a grid pattern laid down with careful stringer work, or a sphere bead with squares of copper inlay?  This eclectic array of geometric shapes will highlight dimensional artworks inspired by the infinite circle and the edgy square. The angles, spheres, and possibilities of interpretation are endless!

Emerging artists to those with established careers are encouraged to participate. Artists may submit as many beads as they like for the jury, however; a maximum of one bead per artist will be selected for the final exhibit.

The submission deadline has been extended to May 20, 2013

Please pay entry fee before filling out the online application for you will need to enter the payment confirmation number.

Please submit up to two high resolution (300 dpi) jpeg images per submission. Email your images to admin @ isgb.org (remove the spaces). Please put "Geometric Submission" in the subject line.

Journey

Journey is a glimpse into the evolution of ISGB members who have chosen to share their personal growth in beadmaking while supporting our organization. This fundraising effort was open to all members, from newcomers to well-known lampworkers, or somewhere in between. Some chose to show just their current work while others included a visual timeline from their early days working with glass to now.

Journey is 80 pages plus cover featuring 77 ISGB members and five chapters and is available for purchase as a PDF download for $15 (please click on the Add to Cart button below) or as a print-on-demand book for $39 plus shipping

Donations

The International Society of Glass Beadmakers (ISGB) is the premier and foremost organization for the promotion, education, and appreciation of the art of glass beadmaking for wearable, sculptural, and functional art. We were an important catalyst for the contemporary glass movement in America and in just two decades, we have become a worldwide organization with over 1,400 members. Thousands of beadmakers in the world have ISGB to thank for their safe studios, available classes, supplies, and profitable businesses.

ISGB continues to raise the bar for excellence in glass bead artistry by providing juried shows which become worldwide exhibits, educating our beadmakers, providing a strong voice for glass beads in the art community, sharing new techniques, and providing scholarships to our annual conference, The Gathering.

As we preserve the rich traditions of glass beadmaking, while encouraging development, education, and collecting, additional funding will be required. Our annual convention and membership dues no longer meet the financial needs for all of the programs and services that we offer. Please consider donating to ISGB. Your contribution will enable our organization to continue moving forward, meeting the challenges of the future, and strengthening our drive of the contemporary glass movement.

Thank you in advance for your generous support.

ISGB is a 501(c)3 organization. Your contribution may be tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please consult your tax preparer.

Please note that you do not need a PayPal account in order to donate.
