Stronger Together - ISGB/Beads of Courage

This month we are inviting everyone to join us, let's be Stronger Together in helping the Beads of Courage reach their goal. They are currently in need of beads of all types to support their program.
Create a minimum of 15 beads to donate to the Beads of Courage.
Artist Statement
Hi ISGB! I’m so happy to participate In this challenge. I recently (very recently) started making one or two beads for Beads of Courage each time I sat down at the torch, and I have a small supply of beads to donate.
When I began doing this, I thought about things that make me happy, and of course pizza and flip-flops came to mind. Flip-flops are just happy shoes and pizza? Well, there’s nothing better than pizza…unless it’s ice cream! Maybe that will be next.
I’m donating 8 flip-flop beads and 10 slices of pizza!

Artist Statement
I have prototype beads and marbles that are laying around my work studio that are nonetheless sweet and fun. A child would enjoy them. A sick child may actually take comfort in them. I could go on about life’s challenges but suffice it to say I understand what it’s like to have a fragile, sick child. If passing a few of my beads and marbles along to BOC brings a smile or provides a small measure of comfort to a sick child, why would I hesitate? Thank you for the opportunity to help in some small way.

This is my first challenge with ISGB and my first donation to Beads of Courage.
I am an ISGB member and belong to The Florida Glass Dragons.
I watched a tutorial on making dinosaurs for BOC on The Florida Glass Dragon website. I then made 12 dinosaurs, 1 unicorn, 1 horse, and 1 monster (for Halloween). It was great fun and I look forward to making and sending more to BOC.

Artist Statement
Here is my entry for the Stronger together ISGB/Beads of Courage challenge. I made 16 short barrel shaped beads in a variety of blues and aquas. Each bead has three sea creature murrini. I was always fascinated by the ocean and sea creatures as a kid and I hope the kids in the BOC programs enjoy them. Stephanie is a member of the Southern Flames Chapter.

With the holiday season just around the corner, I decided to treat the Beads of Courage children to one of my favorites - "Peppermint Candy." What made me think of them for this challenge is with my history of low blood sugar, I always keep these little candies on hand, in my car, my purse, etc., and use them as my sugar "pick-me-up." I thought these beads might bring comfort and a smile to the BOC children through the holiday season and serve as a "pick-me-up" wherever they may go.
I am donating 20 of these beads and this is my first "Stronger Together - ISGB/Beads of Courage" challenge with ISGB.
I am an ISBG member and a member of The Glass Dragons.

Here are my most recent, inspired in part by Arizona group alien tutorials. Then these are added to my most recent 200. I am inspired by the infinite combinations possible that will resonate with an individual child. I am part of the Silicon Valley fireflies. My current total for BOC is about 1100 this year.

This is not my first time donating to BOC, but it is my first ISGB challenge. I am not currently a member.
When I saw the name of this challenge, right away I thought about the word "Unity". I chose to interpret unity in terms of color inclusion, since there are so many great colors in glass. My 15 beads are a colorful set of simple dot beads. I hope that the bright colors all together can bring joy to a child during a rough time.

I have been making lampwork beads for 15 years. I am inspired by stuffed animal collection and enjoy making all kinds of critters. I hope these critters can bring smiles to the children in the Beads of Courage program.

I hope the Act of Courage beads make children smile and proud of their accomplishments - they are so brave! My approach to this challenge was to make bright and colourful beads, making them with faces and flowers. This group of beads also have a heart impression somewhere on the bead, sending love to the recipient.

I was honored to be one of two featured artists for the Arizona SGB October Beads of Courage challenge. BOC is a very worthwhile organization and I feel very connected because a lot of kids with Cystic Fibrosis genetic disease (which I also have) are in the program. With my daughter, also a strong BOC supporter, created seven different Transportation Tutorials which are hosted on my daughter’s ExaLectric YouTube channel. Tutorials include everything from flying to driving to floating machines! I also created an octopus tutorial for BOC which is on the ISGB education platform. I included a number of tutorials because in years past, when I competed, I really appreciated the variety! My personal favorites are the airplanes…. But that’s probably because I’m an aerospace engineer and also want to encourage the kids to get involved in STEM.

Bumpy, round, flat, smooth, loud, quiet are just some of the words used to describe these beads. I envision the child both looking into the depths of the glass and feeling the solidity of our wish for their healing.

Soon Christmas will be here, so I made a little bundle of ‘Deb’s Christmas Trees
’ for my entry for this year’s Stronger Together ISGB/BoC challenge. Hope these beads will help those who receive them with their journey during the holidays. Making these beads brought back memories when I was a kid. I would lay under our Christmas tree and look up at all the twinkling lights.
Thank you ISGB for the opportunity to be part of this year’s Stronger Together challenge. This is my second year and it’s my pleasure to do this for the kids.

I am a member of Silicon Valley Fireflies and Arizona Society of Glass Beadmakers. I was inspired by the latter’s beads of courage tutorials, especially the Space Invader one by Diane Sepanski. They were so much fun to make. I also enjoyed making the hot air balloons from the tutorial by Juliet Page.

This is not my first donation to Beads of Courage, but my first time participating in an ISGB challenge. My approach to the challenge was simply to make a collection of fun, colorful beads, in a variety of shapes. I really enjoyed the Snow Cone tutorial from Diane Woodall, so I made several of those. I loved making beads for BoC and intend to make a habit of making them so I can support this great organization with regular donations of beads.

Hello! This is my first time joining the challenge. I am a newbie to flameworking and really enjoyed trying my hand at recreating what I learned from the inspirational tutorials . Although I had limited success I gained new techniques and heightened my confidence.
This time I was only able to create 5 beads worthy of sending...a spaceship and 4 octopus (aliens?) guarding treasure beads.

When I received your email about this challenge, I sat down and came up with an idea for making a set of beads that would be strung on wire and function as a Christmas ornament. That idea did not come to pass, so instead, I looked through items I was sorting out and chose widow and orphan beads with bright colors that I figure will appeal to children.
Beads of Courage is a wonderful idea and I hope the kids like these beads. They will get picked up by the mailman tomorrow morning.
