I’ve taken at least seven online classes since we all went virtual, and as much as I love being “in person”, the online classes have kept me motivated and inspired throughout the last two and a half years.

I thought I’d share these from my first online class- Floral Implosion Pendants with Jeri Warhaftig.  I have always been fascinated by implosions , but haven’t had consistent results with them.  This class really put me on the path to understanding the technique and having some success.  I’m still making them, almost two years later!

Let me also say that every online class I’ve taken has been extremely well-organized and user friendly.  Kudos to the teachers who have put the time and energy into all the things that make this format work!

I recently took JC Herrell’s online class called “The enamel mixing tutorial.” It was a fabulous class (just like all her other classes that I’ve taken). Here we learned how to use enamels with glass to make a new palette of colors, alabaster like glass and veiled cane. These kitty beads, destined for Beads of Courage, show off the wonderful translucency and variegation you can get with the veiled cane!

This hollow blown lentil bead (35mm across) is created after combining what I learned from two separate online courses. From Astrid Riedel’s Advanced Blown Beads class, I learned to make big blown lentil beads. From Hayley Tsang Sather’s Explore the Magic of Silver Glass, I learned how to bring out the hues of the rainbow from Double Helix’s reducing glass.

I took this photo with my cell phone under natural lighting from the window on a cloudy day without any color enhancements other than cropping the frame. I enjoyed both classes and highly recommend them.

I haven’t worked in the flamework group long.  I have taken a couple of online classes.  This is a picture of my work from the fossil bead class I took which was taught by Corina Tettinger.

I took the octopus class from Andrew Pollack which taught me how to work with Boro and a few different sculpting techniques for Octopus. As well as making and placing eye murrini in Boro.

I took a dot sampler bead class online. It was taught by Tom Holland and was offered through the Arizona Society of Glass Beadmakers. I learned many good tips. The hardest thing for me was keeping dot sizes the same when making stacked dots.

This past winter, February 28 through March 4, I attended an online glass class through the John C. Campbell Folk School. Terry Hale and Marjorie Langston taught techniques for making hollow beads as well as vessels. These wonderful teachers explained more than one technique for making a round hollow, and how to select appropriate glass for blowing these beads on a puffy mandrel! The viscosity of the glass as well as translucency could make the process more forgiving while obtaining a beautiful colorful result. I was able to improve in heat control and progress to make larger, more uniform beads with feedback from Terry and Marjorie.

We also used stainless steel straws to make tiny vessels. This was most challenging for me, especially when adding handles! I was able to turn some “fails” into fun objects like faces. We used murrini on some vessels and learned to make stoppers to fit the opening. Some of my vessels were able to sit flat but others, with handles, are better to wear on a necklace.

I still have a lot to learn but have zeroed in on the way that works best for me building the hollow. I will spend my time practicing to master vessels with less expensive clear glass to gain consistency. The Lessonface platform they used was quite user friendly. I appreciate the knowledge, patience, and camaraderie that made my week exceptional!

Hello there! Below is my photo for the April Challenge. I took Corina Tettinger's Rainforest Class at last year’s Gathering.

This class inspired me to not only one day visit a tropical rainforest in person but also pushed my skills in fine detail. It taught me many new techniques that took my bead creating to a whole new level.

After enjoying Floor Kaspers' Glass Headpins class (Online Gathering June 2021), I purchased a hollow wood cube and proceeded to explore different glasses (Effetre and Double Helix), textures (enamels and etching, frit, smooth surfaces, paddled shapes), and forms (rounded, pulled, twisted) in a piece I call “Elemental.”  In this piece, I’m suggesting elements of water, air, earth, fire, metal, and wood.

Here is a Bobblehead bird that I made after taking Marcy Lamberson's class on making Bobbleheads. I loved this class and all the online classes that I have taken in the last few years.

Hi, I couldn’t decide which class to mention as all were equally wonderful so please make the choice for me!  I took three online classes and each of them exceeded my expectations:

An online class by Astrid Riedel called “Painting in the Flame” taught me to use gold luster to accent enameled designs.

An online class (or tutorial) with JC Herrell called “Enameled Stringers” taught me to use enameled stringers to create impressionistic water lily beads.

An online class with Corina Tettinger called “ISGB Rainforest Class” taught me how to create rainforest themed beads, pictured.

All were awesome classes and much appreciated since I don’t have the luxury of traveling out of state.  Online classes are my dream come true and moved my skills to a higher level!!

Improved skills were my inspiration for taking these classes.

Thank you!

I have participated in three virtual workshops under the guidance of the best teachers.

Jelveh Jaferian, Astrid Riedel and Hayley Tsang Sather have been my good teachers and guides teaching me tips and tricks on silver glass and blowing techniques.

I am a slow learner, but motivated. I love reducing glass, striking glass is still not my best friend. The blowing technique still needs practice.

One can`t always control gravitation if you are not good enough.

Failure is not something to fear. It's a natural aspect of life which can teach us different lessons and thereby help us evolve. The key challenge is in taking failure and using it to one's advantage.

I took Jennie Braid Lamb's "Beneath the Waves, Reef Beads" and decided to come out from beneath the waves to take a stroll through the garden.  Many thanks to Jennie for the inspiration!

This is work that I did after taking the Rainforest class with Corina Tettinger through ISGB online classes last year. I love being challenged to learn new things and move outside my comfort zone. The online classes are really appreciated and allow opportunities to take for teachers I might not be able to take in person.

What a wonderful challenge.

I took the class about Bobbleheads from Marcy Lamberson, she is such a lovely teacher.

I have a Photoshop of my Mushroom Bobblehead, a video had been better of a bobblehead but you can very likely imagine her bobble.

My ISGB Chapter that I belong to is the Pacific Pyros.  My Submission is from one of the classes that I loved, Rainforest Beads by Corina Tettinger. All the classes were amazing and I love the online format. Corina is an incredible teacher and gives so much information and is so inspiring to all of us. I really enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you to all who helped these classes be such a success.

I took the Feather Illustration Bead Class with JC Herrell.  I have taken many of JC’s online classes and loved them all.  The feather class was fun as it was whimsical and forgiving, using bright and bold colors and a creative mind.

Here is my entry to the April challenge, “share your class creations”.

This is a creation of mine from the “Quark” class taught by Corina Tettinger.

I am a member of a few chapters now, but my original and home base chapter is the Pacific Pyros in Canada.

The murrini inside this quark bead were made by members of the Florida Glass Dragons and came to me through a “murrini swap”. All those lovely murrini inspired me, this bead contains a tiny representation of my friends who made them.

Living in France, I had the opportunity to do the Bobblehead workshop online from Marcy Lamberson.

I tried to represent my son, as a birthday gift. Hopefully, my son looks better than the glass puppet.

I took two very different online classes recently.  The first was Corinna Tettinger’s Rainforest Beads and the second was Floor Kaspers’ Headpins Made Easy.  Both classes were fabulous and increased my skills in ways I hadn’t imagined!

The photo is a work in progress from Floor’s class.  I’ve used the knotted snake necklace in different pieces, and thought it would work here, with maybe one or two more headpins!  There are never enough headpins!

My entry for the April Creativity Challenge is inspired by Jenni Lamb’s Beneath the Sea class from Gathering 2021. It was a really good class for me and murrini!
