Hello glass friend

In summer I like to be inspired by the sea and the landscape.

I used silver glass for the mussels and Dichroic glass for the depth of the water.

Pearly greetings

This summer, I was inspired by two things: the ISGB “Your bead for Venice” competition, and the birth of my first child, Aiden, (whose name means little flame, or spark.). I created these masks using techniques that were new to me (gold foil) and some older ones I haven’t used in years (goldstone and murrini). The gold color scheme honors my new baby boy, and comes from the term “Golden Hour” which is the first hour you get to hold and bond with your baby after birth. Making these beads after being away from the torch for almost a year during my pregnancy and labor re-lit the spark in me to create with glass again. Thank you to the ISGB for hosting such a fabulous challenge.

Music and CPTSD are my inspiration. Glass making has changed and saved my life. I am proud to honor loved ones lost with memorial pieces. I enjoy giving back to the Music community (it’s been a coping mechanism since I can remember), so I make beads for Bands, Vendors, Host and festivals I attend. I owe the glass community so much.

I have been most inspired by in-person workshops. My most recent workshop was at the SGI retreat. The instructor was Kim Fields and I learned many new techniques for making flowers and canes. I was also greatly inspired by the two classes I took from Kristen Franzen Orr. I learned to make the style of flower on this bead during a class from Madeline Bunyan.

I made a wearable blown glass lapel vessel that can safely hold a bit of water and any foliage I find on any given day that makes me happy. That way, I can carry a bit of joy with me anywhere I go.

This is my COVID Hero, inspired by all of the nurses and health care professionals and support personnel who cared for the sick and dying during the COVID pandemic. Thank you to all of the health care professionals and supportive staff who continue to provide dedicated care. Made by request.

I love going to the Beach. The first time I saw the sandy beach and the clear blue water and sand of the Bahamas, I was struck by its beauty. Growing up in Louisiana we would water ski in the various lakes that were dark and muddy. Finding ocean water that was clear and pristine was life changing. When I began to learn the skill of lampworking, my first choices of glass rod colors were the transparent aqua, turquoise and ivory colors. I kept thinking how much I loved these colors. Soon I began to create heart shaped ocean themed beads to express my favorite memories of the ocean.

The ocean is a major inspiration for me.  I live near the ocean, in San Diego.  I also really love octopuses....they are smart, graceful, and fascinating.

Attached please find my piece that is inspired by the "flutter of birds wings " and the strength of our fine feathered friends to travel all around the world on tiny wee wings of a prayer only to return to their nests . Title : " Strollin with my Peeps "

In my quest to make something my mother would like and use, I tried some off mandrel sculpting. I made some little eggs to fit the small entry nest that she found and kept for decoration. Using the classic turquoise and ivory it created the nice reaction that resembles spotted robin eggs.

Recently I participated in a class by Terry Henry on glass components. I have always been inspired by flowers. This class has given me new ideas for glass flowers.

I am creating a new body of work for a show I am in on Bowen Island, BC Canada. I have been having a fantastic inspirational time creating ocean themed pieces of art by bringing many different elements together to give the viewer a sense of creatures in the ocean being protected by an ocean guardian. The elements in the piece are flame worked and kiln cast, and the coral is cast aluminum that a friend, Dave Carter, created and gave me the inspiration to create this piece.

What inspires me is all things Ocean.  I love to scuba dive, snorkel, kayak and fish and so I really enjoy making beads that remind me of the ocean, even when I can’t be on the ocean.  This bracelet is one of my more simple designs made on an oval big hole mandrel. The picture was taken by my son when we were having lunch with friends in Sausalito, overlooking the bay.

I am a lampworker and an architect.

What I create is always inspired by Nature, by its forms, colors, aromas and sensations.

The Master cannot create something that is not drawn from his outer world.

Glass is the ideal material for this - it can take any shape, color and at the same time reflect the entire Universe. The smallest drop of glass reflects the world, nature and the master's heart.

For the last 6 months I have been inspired to combine many different glassworking techniques into a single bead. Each bead is made using copper enameling, fusing, lampworking, pressing and coldworking. They are both challenging and fun.
